5 ways to celebrate 2013 (and leap into 2014)

By Kipp Lanham

This time of year is full of holiday gatherings among co-workers, clients, family, and friends. It is also a great time to celebrate the successes of clients and excite them about the year to come.

Here are some ways to encourage clients to toot their own horns as they trumpet in the new year:

1. Viral video. Produce a quick YouTube video highlighting the time of year, reflecting on the successes of the past year, and cluing in viewers on what is to come in 2014. The video can be a great way to set the agenda for the year ahead with regard to the client’s core products, services, or mission.

2. Advertising. An infographic or a photo ad can capture the spirit of the successes of 2013 while hinting at what’s to come. Whether touting record profits, a landmark case win, or affirming fundraising achievements for an organizational campaign, the visual message can tell a client’s story if done effectively.

3. Media interviews. Lots of year-end articles reflect on the year that is coming to a close. Many publications will be looking for sources and unique angles to tell this story. It is the perfect opportunity for your clients to share their defining moments of 2013 and what they think will define their work or industry in 2014.

4. Gifts. We often send gift baskets and cards to clients. Why not have a purpose beyond giving thanks for their business? The gift is also an opportunity to frame the great work you accomplished together in a video reel, picture album, collage, or other creative take that describes the journey while heralding what lies ahead. What new services or projects can you engage preview? The gift is the perfect opportunity to share this information to excite the client for another great year to come.

5. Holiday parties. Holding a holiday party with clients can offer an opportunity to present the wins of the past year and explore ideas for 2014 in a creative, fun manner such as Vine videos or Snapchat exchanges. You could engage in some holiday-themed shenanigans such as white elephant gift exchanges for charity. The celebration can help cement the client relationship for another year of rewarding work.
