Sobel to Focus on How to Connect and Persuade a Media Audience Using Psychological Theory
Washington, DC – Scott Sobel, President of Media & Communications Strategies, will be speaking at the American Psychological Association’s (APA) Annual Convention in Washington D.C. on August 8th. The 2014 APA Annual Convention will host hundreds of sessions on the full range of psychology topics, including over 200 sessions offering continuing education (CE) credit. Programs and sessions will cover issues such as health disparities, use of technology, violence, integrated health care, and clinical practice.
Mr. Sobel will be speaking at a session titled “Expanding Our Reach—Building Media Skills for Counseling Psychologists” on August 8th at 9:00 a.m. Scott’s talk will focus on understanding the news media and its audience. No stranger to this topic, Mr. Sobel received his Masters in Media and Communications Psychology from Touro University Worldwide and has found media psychology useful in all aspects of his work.
“Persuading journalists, developing meaningful relationships with them, controlling interviews and effectively reaching audiences can be accomplished when you apply primal human needs driven by the brain’s limbic system and explained through Maslow’s hierarchy of needs, says Scott Sobel. “Journalists, like most of us, actually are motivated by simplistic needs. There may be some socially redemptive and self-actualizing results but the journalists, news and entertainment audiences are pushed and pulled by basic psychological and even physical motivators.”
