Keeping Crisis from Becoming Disaster. A business or reputation crisis can be a company-ending or career-ending event. This tipping-point moment can also be a time for redefinition and a fulcrum for rejuvenation…it all depends on how the crisis is handled.

You can’t learn how to handle crisis from reading concepts from a textbook. You can’t handle crisis by being complacent or overly cautious. This is one of those cases where you have to be prudent and proactive when possible, or mitigate negative outcomes.

These decisive actions need to be taken with a cool, somewhat detached professional attitude by experienced counselors who are not afraid to tell the boss, “Houston, we have a problem.”

Media & Communications Strategies counselors have been, and will be, extremely successful in handling clients’ crises, understanding the intensely stressful dynamics, and supporting business, personal and legal goals.

We have, for example:

  • Worked with all levels of local, national and international media to handle crisis situations
  • Placed stories in the media to initiate the right kinds of stories or kept stories, or parts of stories, out of the news media
  • Prepared clients and media trained them for deposition, trial, testimony before Congress and interviews with the highest-level news media
  • Saved clients millions of dollars in penalties and reputation losses during the Congressional and Department of Justice investigations into abusive tax shelters
  • Turned around media and government perception during a national environmental issue
  • Helped create a new and more media-friendly persona before, during and after trial for an international celebrity; saving that celebrity well over $100-million-dollars in court costs and court-related losses
  • Kept priests wrongly accused of pedophilia out of the news
  • Kept Congress from condemning clients during subcommittee investigations
  • Created charity events and positive stories changing media and public perception after the most catastrophic events
  • Consulted on cases involving: Enron, Sago Mine, Martha Stewart, Robert Blake, wind farms, major airports, various aviation accidents, Wal-Mart, pharmaceutical regulatory issues, insider trading, Rosie O’Donnell, Jayson Williams, international bank scandal, Hurricane Katrina, food and tobacco legal issues, Iraq War contractor crisis, War on Terror, Weapons of Mass Destruction, Homeland Security and a long, long list of positive client stories…and much more
